I know, I know. Spring break was a WHILE ago, Syd. It’s finals week for crying out loud. But bear with me! Life gets busy, but I’m back to recap spring break!
The week leading up to break was stressful (as usual), so I was so excited to be home and relax for the week. My mom had been telling me she had a surprise planned for me over break but wouldn’t tell me what it was. I suspected it was a trip…but she dodged all my questions about what to pack and just told me to pack to come home. After about a week of constantly asking her and having my questions evaded, I gave up and just packed some jeans and t-shirts to go home!
After my last midterm, I drove home and slept for probably two whole days (sorry Mom and Dad!). After a couple days spent with just family (aka the BEST), my sweet friend Gabby came to visit me! We spent the day doing bible study, taking walks on the beach, getting acai bowls, and visiting the lighthouse! Gabby is terrified of heights but she braved the stairs with me, even though she was glued to the wall at the top the whole time haha!
The next day, my mom and I went to go visit my grandma! My dad was leaving for a business trip the next day, and we were talking about it with my grandma when my mom said: “Oh we’re actually leaving too so you need to pack later”. I was so surprised and excited! Even though I now knew we were going to go somewhere, I still had no clue where. She told me to just pack whatever I had, so I did!
The next morning at the airport, we walked up to the airline counter and I STILL had no idea where we were going. I didn’t have my passport, so I knew it was domestic, but I still couldn’t figure out exactly where we were going. Once the airline counter attendant handed me the ticket, I knew we were going to DALLAS! My mom grew up in Texas so it holds a special place in our hearts, and her cousin and best friend lives there! I’m not quite sure what she is to me, but my mom’s cousins daughter (second cousin?) is my really good friend so I was SO excited to finally be seeing her again! It had been about a year!
Another thing I was super pumped for…MAGNOLIA FARMS! My mom and I both adore Joanna Gaines and Fixer Upper; I’ve seen every episode and read every book so I was so happy to finally have my dreams of seeing the Silos come true! We decided to go to Magnolia farms a couple days after getting there so that we could have time to do all the touristy things around Dallas with our cousins first. It was a jam-packed couple of days!
The first day, we went to see a cattle drive and a tulip farm! Remember that blog post about how much I love cows? I was THRIVING at this cattle drive. It was amazing! My favorite animal are cows and my favorite flowers are tulips, so it was basically the happiest day ever for me! It made me so thankful for family who listens and makes your dreams come true if they can. So special!
That night we had a good old cookout complete with steaks and potatoes and all kinds of homemade goodies. I don’t know if I was just extra hungry and tired or what, but it was seriously one of the best meals I’ve ever had!
The next day, it was finally time. Magnolia Farms. We left really early because it was Spring at the Silos, so we knew it would be packed. I was so glad we got to see Spring at the Silos because there were so many extra vendors and I got to experience so much more than just the silos! We spent the day walking around the garden center, hanging out at the Silos, and eating the best cupcakes ever. It was everything I dreamed of and more, and I would go back in a heartbeat if I could! It was all so beautiful, and looked just like it did on TV!
We left with tummies full of brisket and very happy hearts. If you ever have the chance to spend a couple days in Dallas/Waco, take it! Spring break 2018, you were a dream. I can’t wait to see how many more wonderful adventures summer brings! A huge thank you to my mom for making my dreams come true. The real MVP, forever!
